This database was compiled as part of the research project Writing Berlin at the Cluster of Excellence Temporal Communities. Doing Literature in a Global Perspective at Freie Universität Berlin. The project researches the internationalisation of the literary scenes in divided Berlin on both sides of the Wall. For the eastern part of the city, the entry card index of the German Writers Association (Deutscher Schriftstellerverband) provides extensive records – more than 3,500 (guest) stays of international authors in the GDR were meticulously documented here. On these pages you have the opportunity to digitally browse through the entry card index, which is in the possession of the Literary Archives of the Academy of Arts. It can thus serve as an entry point for research on international cultural and literary policy in divided Germany, but also on bilateral relations or individual biographies of authors.
